135 East 79th Street is a masterful expression of rigorous craftsmanship not seen on the Upper East Side in almost a century. Flanking the double-height arched entrance are matching 22-foot tall espaliered pear tree sculptures hand-modeled by William Sofield.
Heintges provided consulting services on all exterior systems, including the custom wood window system on the 1st & 2nd floors, the aluminum and glass punched windows from the 3rd floor up, hand-set stone and masonry systems, and the precast parapet crown. To achieve the architect’s aesthetic vision, multiple stone finishes were used to contribute to the aged worn look of the facade. Window manufacturer Wasau modified an existing system to make a traditional profie more narrow, yet still incorporate thermal breaks.
Heintges provided building envelope consulting services during all phases of design and construction, including NYC Special Inspections.
