The new Academic Science Building at Medgar Evers College is the central hub of the expanding campus. Located near Prospect Park in Brooklyn, the facility is a centerpiece of cross-disciplinary collaboration housing the college’s School of Science, Health and Technology, classrooms, laboratories, offices, and an open cafeteria and student lounge. 

Above the building’s main entry, the steel-and-glass pavilion enclosing the open lounge acts as a front door to the campus, showcasing activity within to the surrounding community. The pavilion is comprised of an architecturally exposed steel moment frame system, clad with point-supported insulated glazing units. Custom-designed stainless steel fittings provide connections between the point-supported glass and frame. Glass is butt-glazed and incorporates a ceramic frit pattern of varying densities and graduated coverage, providing a play between the transparency and materiality of the glass surface. 

Heintges was retained as exterior cladding consultant throughout design and construction.
