The deceptively simple form of the Espirito Santo Plaza bank tower—featuring an elliptical shape created by the intersection of a cylinder and box—conceals engineering, fabrication, and logistical complexities.

We worked closely with KPF to develop multiple curtain wall systems for the mixed-use program of offices for the bank headquarters, as well as residences, hotel and multi-story glass atrium on the upper floors which accentuates and frames the ocean view.

Cladding for the project comprised more than 350,000 sq. ft. of custom-designed curtain wall and included skylights incorporating glass, aluminum, and steel. Heintges designed an innovative hinged mullion system that accommodates the constantly changing slope along the ellipse curve. As exterior cladding consultant, Heintges worked with the architect and the curtain-wall contractor to develop custom details that helped achieve the seamless articulation of the architect’s design intentions,  while negotiating the intricacies of the stringent building code including missile impact and flood resistant design requirements.

Heintges provided building envelope consulting services during all phases of design and construction.
