585 Third Street is a dynamic mixed-use building including lab, office, and performing and cultural arts spaces. This 500,000 square-foot, 16-story building occupies one of the last remaining parcels in Kendall Square and incorporates a 300-seat performing arts theater and over an acre of public space on the ground floor, including a 10,000 square-foot interior garden.
The building’s high-performance envelope incorporates custom profile terracotta cladding on unitized curtain wall. The terracotta transitions in profile and color across the three tiers of the project. At intermediate terraces, the facade peels apart to reveal terrace glazing system, and occupiable green roof spaces. At the ground level, a monumental glass fin system spanning three stories highlights the performing arts theater, creates transparency and public interaction.
