Center is a 830,000 sq. ft. new hospital facility with 374 new beds in single-occupancy rooms. This new tower anchors the northeast corner of the midtown campus and functionally extends Tisch Hospital, providing improved care campus-wide by integrating emerging technologies and innovative care practices.

Ensuring patient comfort after sensitive procedures and during recovery, the building envelope has been designed and tested to meet ambitious acoustic criteria incorporating specialized sound dampening technology within the curtain wall mullions and triple glazed units at the most sensitive areas abutting the FDR freeway and the East 34th Street Heliport.

Below a cantilevered glass canopy, the main entrance from First Avenue opens into a 6-story atrium bound by a curved glass entry façade identifying it as a dedicated entry for the children’s hospital on 34th Street. The atrium system is hung from internal steel strong backs and braced laterally at intermediate supports to minimize the perimeter structure and maximize the transparency of the featured space, providing a welcoming gesture to patients.

Heintges provided building envelope consulting during all phases of design and construction, including NYC Special Inspections.
