The renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department at NYU Langone Medical Center is part of the North Clinical Campus transformation. The project expanded the department from the existing 6,900 sq. ft. to 19,600 sq. ft. and added an additional 2,400 square feet devoted to radiology, allowing the space to accommodate 45,000 visitors per year. The new facility separated the entrance for ambulance and walk-in patients, and also created a dedicated pediatric emergency care center and more efficient service for non-acute patients.
This project sought to highlight the entrance with a screen wall of acid-etched glass that glows by day and is illuminated from a light box behind the screen at night. The storefront is composed of large glass lites with a minimal T-profile mullion that follows the sloping sidewalk. The oversized lites are pre-glazed to aluminum glazing adaptors and clipped to the custom profile mullions.
