Designed by Foster + Partners, Oceanwide Center is comprised of two iconic towers: a 900-foot-tall mixed-use tower on First Street (the second tallest in the city) and a 625-foot-tall residential tower on Mission Street.

The First Street tower is remarkable for its geometric expression as well as for its generous public podium at street level. The first six floors of the building are completely open, creating an “urban room” framed by the stainless steel-clad building structure. Structurally, the building eschews typical core construction in favor of the optimized structural steel diagrid, a hallmark of Foster + Partners. Combined with the tapered massing, this diagrid structure is the point of departure for the tower’s “bird’s mouth” silhouette and faceted curtain wall geometry. The curtain wall incorporates recessed, stainless steel diagrid cladding, high performance insulated glazing units, and custom aluminum profile framing.

The Mission Street tower is equally innovative in its approach to the facade, abstracting the classic "bay window" features of San Francisco residential architecture into "jewel box" vitrines offering panoramic views. The monumental vitrine glazing is set into travertine stone surrounds, a luxurious interpretation of the traditional precast cladding typical of other high-rise buildings in the Bay Area.

Heintges provided building envelope consulting services for all phases of the project, including construction administration and performance mock-up testing.
