The University of Virginia's Paul and Dianna Manning Institute of Biotechnlogy is a 350,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in the Fontaine Research Park. The four-story building will provide versatile infrastructure for scientists in the cellular and genetic biology disciplines, and will contain laboratories, expanded research facilities, and collaboration space.
The envelope incorporates custom unitized curtain wall along the main courtyard elevations as well as brick cavity wall with articulated vertical fins and strip windows. High performance glazing systems incorporate vertical and horizontal sun shading elements to provide solar and glare control at laboratory and office spaces. During early design phases, embodied carbon analysis was performed on a range of options to inform the final material and system selections.
Heintges is providing ongoing building envelope consulting during all phases of design and construction.
