Virginia Commonwealth University's new School of Dentistry building is located on VCU's Campus in Richmond, VA. It will expand clinical capacity to accomodate over 100,000 patients annually, and as the only dental school and the largest provider of dental care to Medicaid recipients in the state of Virginia, serves as a vital oral healthcare resource.
The envelope incorporates vertical limestone cladding and glazed curtain wall with a coordinated anchorage between the systems to accommodate intermediate slab deflection while minimizing horizontal joint expression on the facade. A large format glazing system spanning multiple floors marks entrances and communal gathering spaces. The building massing creates multiple terraces for access to the exterior. Along the highway bordering the site, the glazing system provides acoustical separation to mitigate traffic noise in offices and classrooms.
Heintges is providing ongoing building envelope consulting and roofing & waterproofing services during all phases of design and construction.
